Function: - proteins that provide a scaffold for the assembly of multiprotein signaling complexes & cytoskeletal anchoring at synaptic membranes & possibly other plasma membranes - in the post synaptic density of excitatory synapses, the scaffold proteins assemble a complex around glutamate receptors, including NMDA receptors & AMPA receptors - the scaffold proteins function in signal transduction, cytoskeletal anchoring & trafficking of the glutamate receptors Compartment: - plasma membrane, synaptic membrane, post-synpatic density - the scaffold proteins may localize to regions of lipid rafts
