Function: 1) regulates Tat transactivation activity through direct interaction Structure: - contains 8 HAT repeats - contains 2 RRM domains (RNA recognition motif) Compartment: cytoplasm, nuclear speckle Alternative splicing: named isoforms=3 Expression: - ubiquitously expressed - expressed in the cytoplasm of all proliferating cells Pathology: 1) interacts with HIV-1 Tat protein 2) cellular factor for HIV-1 gene expression & viral replication (putative) 3) expressed in the nucleus of malignant tumor cell lines & majority of cancer tissues with various histologies, including squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), adenocarcinomas, melanomas & leukemias - undetectable in the nucleus of any cell lines of nonmalignant cells or normal tissues, except for testis - also expressed in cytoplasm of malignant cells
