Function: - reversibly catalyzes transfer of phosphate between ATP & various phosphogens (e.g. creatine phosphate) - creatine kinase isoenzymes play a central role in energy transduction in tissues with large, fluctuating energy demands, such as skeletal muscle, heart, brain & spermatozoa - binds cardiolipin ATP + creatine = ADP + phosphocreatine Structure: - octamer composed of four CKMT2 homodimers - belongs to the ATP:guanido phosphotransferase family Compartment: - mitochondrial inner membrane; intermembrane side Expression: - sarcomere-specific - found only in heart & skeletal muscles
