sarcomere
The functional unit of striated muscle. It is the segment of a myofibril between adjacent Z lines. The size & extensibility of cross-links are the main determinants of sarcomere extensibility properties of muscle. Titin provides the balance of forces between 2 halves of sarcomere at the level of individual microfilaments.
