Etiology: - labor & delivery - uterine scar from a previous cesarean section is the most common risk factor Pathology: - life-threatening for mother & baby Clinical manifestations: - typically occurs during early labor - may develop during late pregnancy - abdominal pain - vaginal bleeding - signs & symptoms of hypovolemic shock Management: - emergency exploratory laparotomy with C-section - fluids & blood transfusions as needed - supportive treatment of hypovolemic shock - hysterorrhaphy vs hysterectomy
