Ras-related GTP-binding protein A (RagA, RRAGA, adenovirus E3 14.7 kD-interacting protein 1, FIP-1)

Function: 1) RCC1/Ran-GTPase pathway 2) TNF-alpha signaling pathway, apoptosis 3) guanine nucleotide-binding activity but undetectable intrinsic GTPase activity 4) binds GTP, the GTP-bound form of RRAGA interacts with NOL8 5) may shuttle between the cytoplasm & nucleus, depending on the bound nucleotide state 6) homodimer, heterodimer with RRAGC or RRAGD Expression: - ubiquitously expressed - highest levels in skeletal muscle, heart, brain Pathology: 1) cellular target for adenovirus E3-14.7 kD protein, an inhibitor of TNF-alpha 2) colocalizes in vivo with adenovirus E3-14.7 kD protein mainly near nuclear membrane & discrete foci near plasma membrane
