robotic surgery
Procedure:
1) surgeons view the operative on a display monitor
2) surgeons direct robotic devices capable of:
a) cutting
b) tying knots
c) cauterizing
Obstacles:
- image transmission is slow
Notes:
1) 1st successful transatlantic robotic cholecystectomy reported (see reference)
2) robotic surgery associated with a higher rate of urinary incontinence than radical prostatectomy [2]
3) not approved to mastectomy [4]
