ribonuclease 3 (Drosha, p241, RNase3, RNASEN, RN3, RNASE3L)

Function: 1) executes initial step of microRNA (miRNA) processing in nucleus, cleavage of pri-miRNA to release pre-miRNA 2) role in pre-rRNA processing 3) cleaves double-strand RNA but does not cleave single-strand RNA 4) endonucleolytic cleavage to 5'-phosphomonoester. 5) interacts with Sp1 Compartment: - nucleus - a fraction is translocated to nucleolus during S phase of the cell cycle Alternative splicing: named isoforms=3 Expression: ubiquitous Structure: - contains 1 DRBM domain (double-stranded RNA-binding domain) contains 2 RNase-3 domains
