Etiology: - arthritis - tuberculous arthritis - other infectious arthritis - rheumatoid arthritis - chronic synovitis - chronic bursitis Pathology: - multiple small loose bodies resembling polished grains of rice - found in synovial fluid or bursae - may represent shedding of infarcted synovium with encasement by fibrin - cartilage-like appearance Radiology: - magnetic resonance imaging: T1 isointense, T2 hypointense
