regulator of G-protein signaling 1; RGS1; early response protein 1R20; B-cell activation protein BL34 (RGS1, 1R20, BL34, IER1)
Function:
- inhibits signal transduction by increasing the GTPase activity of G protein alpha subunits convertin them to their inactive GDP-bound form
- role in regulation of B-cell activation & proliferation (putative)
- may be phosphorylated
- may be functionally regulated by protein kinase(s)
Structure: contains 1 RGS domain
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
Expression:
- B-cell specific
- expression is relatively low in B-cells
- induced in response to several B-cell activation signals
Pathology:
- expression is low in chronic lymphocytic leukemia B-cells
- expression is consititively high in
a) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
b) hairy cell leukemia
