Rezum water vapor therapy

Indications: - benign prostatic hypertrophy Procedure: - minimally invasive procedure that uses steam to shrink an enlarged prostate - single-use scope with a 1-cm retractable needle pocked by an array of steam-emitting holes - the scope is inserted up the urethra & releases 103 C vapor over 9 seconds - the heat of the vapor will cause the cells of the prostate to actually die, immediately - mean time of procedure is 4.8 min - mean number of injections is 11 - mean duration of post-procedure catheterization is ~10 days [2] Notes: - improve peak urinary flow 60% - improves post-void residual 50-60% at 3 months persisting at least 12 months - preserves erectile function & ejaculatory function [2]
