protein Rev (regulator of expression of viral proteins, anti-repression transactivator, ART/TRS)
Function:
1) escorts unspliced or incompletely spliced viral pre-mRNAs (late transcripts) containing Rev responsive element (RRE) out of the nucleus of infected cells
- interaction with AGFG1 for nuclear export [2]
2) Rev itself is translated from a fully spliced mRNA that readily exits the nucleus
3) contains both nuclear import & nuclear export signals resulting in continuous shuttling between the nucleus & cytoplasm
4) nuclear localization signal binds to KPNB1
a) KPNB1 bind to GDP-bound form of Ran protein
b) converison of Ran-GDP to Ran-GDP dissociated Rev from KPNB1
5) Rev bound to RRE inhibited from return to nucleus Nucleus, nucleolus, cytoplasm
