reticuloendothelial system (RES)

A term originally in reference to putative phagocytes, destined for obsolescence replaced by the recognition of monocytes & macrophages. The RES includes: 1) macrophages 2) cells lining the sinusoids of lymphoid tissues a) spleen b) lymph nodes c) bone marrow 3) fibroblasts of hematopoietic tissues
