remitting seronegative synovitis with pitting edema

Etiology: - part of the clinical spectrum of polymyalgia rheumatica - associated with - autoimmune disease - neurodegenerative disease: Parkinson's disease - paraneoplastic syndrome Epidemiology: - elderly patients, uncommon Genetics: association with HLA-B27 Clinical manifestations: - pain, swelling, stiffness & numbness in the hands - inflammatory synovitis of the wrists & palmar tendon sheaths - both flexor & extensor tendons affected - can affect both hands & feet - stiffness of the shoulders - symptoms worse upon awakening, except for numbness - numbness occurs more often at night - no evidence of Raynaud's phenomenon Management: 1) NSAIDs 2) glucocorticoids, treat as polymyalgia rheumatica
