red muscle fiber (slow fiber, type 1 fiber)
Striated muscle fibers rich in sarcoplasm, myoglobin & mitochondria. They are generally smaller* in diameter & contract more slowly than white fibers.
* In the human psoas, red fibers are thicker than white fibers [2]
