range of motion (ROM)
Pathology:
- limited range of motion may occur with joint disease
- pain associated with active range of motion suggests tendonitis or tendon rupture
- pain associated with passive range of motion suggests arthritis
Management:
- if range of motion is impaired, physical therapy may be of benefit
- if impaired range of motion in the elderly affected driving, refer to occupational therapy with additional training & subspecialty certification in driver evaluation & treatment [1]
