Ras-related protein Rab-1B (RAB1B)
Function:
- protein transport;
- endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to GOLGI & intra-GOLGI transport
- regulates vesicular transport between ER& successive Golgi compartments
- Rab-1B binds GTP & GDP & possesses intrinsic GTPase activity (putative)
- prenylated; by GGTase II, only after interaction of the substrate with Rab escort protein 1 (REP1)
- interacts with MICAL1, MICAL2 & MICAL3
- interacts with GDI1; interaction requires GDP-bound state
- interacts with CHM/REP1; interaction requires GDP-bound form & is necessary for prenylation by GGTase II
Structure:
- belongs to the small GTPase superfamily, Rab family
Compartment:
- membrane; lipid-anchor; cytoplasmic side
- cytoplasm
- targeted by REP1 to membranes of specific subcellular compartments including endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi, & intermediate vesicles between these two compartments
- in the GDP-form, colocalizes with GDI in the cytoplasm (putative)
