Procedure:
- no lab tests are needed
- necessary information is already in the patient's record or can be readily obtained
- associations with overall fracture risk among men include
a) age
b) BMI
c) smoking status
d) alcohol use
e) rheumatoid arthritis
f) cardiovascular disease
g) type 2 diabetes, asthma
h) use of tricyclic antidepressants or corticosteroids
i) liver disease
j) history of falls
- for women, additional associations include
a) hormone replacement therapy
b) parental history of osteoporosis
c) gastrointestinal malabsorption
d) menopausal symptoms
