pyloromyotomy (Ramstedt's operation)

Indications: - hypertrophic pyloric stenosis Procedure: - an incision is made in the smooth muscle wall of the pylorus - hypertrophied muscle is cut until the mucosa bulges out - the lining of the pylorus bulges through the incision opening a channel from the stomach to the duodenum - if the mucosa is injured, it is sutured horizontally using interrupted vicryl or silk sutures
