push enteroscopy

Indications: - obscure GI bleed localized to the distal duodenum or proximal jejunum with capsule endoscopy [1] Procedure: - push enteroscopy a) uses a long endoscope designed to be passed into the jejunum b) working channel of the endoscope allows for biopsy of lesions & cauterization of bleeding sites c) endoscope can be advanced 150 cm past the gastric pylorus, depending upon anatomy of patient & operator skill [1] Complications: - push enteroscopy a) mucosal ulceration & avulsion b) hemorrhage c) intestinal perforation [1]
