purkinje fibers (subendocardial branches of atrioventricular bundle)

Interlacing fibers formed of modified cardiac muscle cells with central granulated protoplasm. They are the terminal ramifications of the conducting system of heart, conveying depolarization from the His bundle into the ventricles.
