pulsatile tinnitus

Etiology: - vascular disorders resulting in turbulent blood flow a) head & neck tumor compressing blood vessel b) vascular neoplasm c) atherosclerosis - carotid artery stenosis - jugular vein thrombosis - cerebral venous thrombosis; dural sinus thrombosis - arteriovenous malformation (generally unilateral) - pseudotumor cerebri Clinical manifestations: - may be described as 'hearing my heartbeat in my head' - whoosing sound in one or both years - hypertension may exacerbate - repositioning the head usually may relieve the tinnutus Management: see tinnitus
