The anteroinferior part of the hip bone or bony pelvis.
Development:
- it is distinct at birth, but later becomes fused with the ilium & the ischium
Structure:
- it is composed of a body that articulates with the contralateral pubis at the pubic symphysis, & 2 rami
- the superior ramus enters into formation of the acetabulum with the ilium & the ischium
- the inferior ramus fuses with the ramus of the ischium to form the ischiopubic ramus.
