protein kinase C-gamma (PKC-I, PRKCG, PRKCC)

Function: - Ca+2-activated, phospholipid-dependent - serine/threonine kinase - activated by diacylglycerol - phosphorylates a range of cellular proteins - interacts with CDCP1 Cofactor: - binds 3 Ca+2 per subunit - Ca+2 are bound to the C2 domain (putative) Structure: - belongs to the protein kinase superfamily, AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family, PKC subfamily - contains 1 AGC-kinase C-terminal domain - contains 1 C2 domain - contains 2 phorbol-ester/DAG-type Zn+2 fingers - contains 1 protein kinase domain Pathology: - defects associated with spinocerebellar ataxia type 14 (may be due to mutation rather than CAG repeat expansion) Laboratory: - PRKCG gene CAG repeats*
