primary intracranial teratoma
Microscopic pathology:
1) tumor composed of different tissue types originating from ectoderm, endoderm & mesoderm
2) subclassification:
a) mature teratoma
- composed of fully differentiated tissues
- mitoses absent or rare.
b) immature teratoma
- composed of incompletely differentiated tissues sometimes resembling fetal tissue
- mitoses typically present.
c) teratoma with malignant transformation
- contains malignant components such as sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma
