prenylated Rab acceptor protein 1 (PRA1 family protein 1, RABAC1, PRA1, PRAF1)
Function:
1) Rab protein regulator required for vesicle formation from Golgi complex
2) may control vesicle docking & fusion by mediating the action of Rab GTPases to SNARE complexes
3) inhibits removal of Rab GTPases from membrane by GDI
4) interacts with VAMP2 (synaptobrevin-2), GDI1, & PCLO
5) interacts specifically with prenylated Rab proteins, strongly with RAB4B, RAB5A and RAB5C, & weakly with RAB4A, RAB6, RAB7, RAB17 & RAB22
6) contrast to the mouse ortholog, does not interact with Ras
Structure:
- homodimer
- belongs to the PRA1 family
Compartment:
- cell membrane, cytoplasm, Golgi, cytoplasmic vesicle, secretory vesicle, synaptic vesicle
Expression:
- ubiquitous
- strongest expression found in placenta, pituitary gland, kidney, lung & stomach
- in fetal tissues, more abundant in kidney & lung
General
