POU domain, class 2, transcription factor 1; NF-A1; octamer-binding protein 1; Oct-1; octamer-binding transcription factor 1; OTF-1 (POU2F1, OCT1, OTF1)

Function: - transcription factor & DNA-binding protein - one of several proteins that bind to same octamer DNA sequence - binds to the octamer motif 5'-ATTTGCAT-3' & activates promoters of genes for some small nuclear RNAs (snRNA) & of genes such as those for histone H2B & immunoglobulins - modulates transcription transactivation by NR3C1, AR & PGR (putative) - interacts with NR3C1, AR, PGR & HCFC1 - phosphorylated by PRKDC Structure: - belongs to the POU transcription factor family, class- 2 subfamily - contains 1 homeobox DNA-binding domain - contains 1 POU-specific domain Compartment: nucleus Alternative splicing: named isoforms=4 Expression: - ubiquitous in mammalian cells - isoform 2 is lymphocyte-specific
