Muscle extending from the pelvis into the gluteal region.
Origin:
-> margins of the pelvic sacral foramina & greater sciatic notch of ilium
Insertion: upper border of the greater trochanter (femur)
Action: rotates thigh laterally
Innervation: nerve to the piriformis (sciatic plexus)
