Clinical manifestations: - translucent nodule or papule with arborizing telangiectasias - may have central depression or ulceration with a rolled waxy border - dark brown pigment Special laboratory: - epiluminescence microscopy permits differentiation of pigmented BCC vs melanoma Differential diagnosis: - pigmented form of basal cell carcinoma often confused with nodular melanoma - pigmented BCC is generally hard, whereas nodular melanoma is generally soft - pigmented BCC may have central depression or ulceration
