photodynamic therapy
Indications:
1) skin disorders
- actinic keratosis
2) macular degeneration
Principle:
- laser irradiation of lesion that have selectively taken up systemically or locally administered porphyrin derivatives allows selective destruction of lesions
- photodynamic therapy for actinic keratoses depends upon formation protoporphyrin IX from topically applied 5-aminolevulenic acid (ALA) or methyl aminolevulinic acid
Notes:
- conversion of 5-aminolevulenic acid (ALA) or methyl aminolevulinic acid to protoporphyrin IX is slower in the elderly [2]
Specific
endoscopic ablation by photodynamic therapy
photodynamic therapy for skin cancer/lip cancer/premalignant skin lesion
General
dermatologic laser surgery
phototherapy
