cardiac phospholamban; PLB (PLN, PLB)

Function: - unphosphorylated form inhibits Ca+2-transporting ATPase of sarcoplasmic reticulum - binding to cytoplasmic tail of ER Ca+2 ATPase inhibits pump - phosphorylation by cAMP kinase (PKA) & CaM kinase inhibits inhibition of ER Ca+2 ATPase - phosphorylated in response to beta-adrenergic stimulation Structure: - homopentamer - belongs to the phospholamban family Compartment: - mitochondrial membrane - sarcoplasmic reticulum (putative) Expression: heart Pathology: - defects in PLN are the cause of dilated cardiomyopathy type 1P
