Function: - glycolytic enzyme - polymerase alpha cofactor protein (primer recognition protein) - carbohydrate degradation; glycolysis - pyruvate from D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, step 2/5 ATP + 3-phospho-D-glycerate ADP + 3-phospho-D-glyceroyl phosphate Structure: - monomer - belongs to the phosphoglycerate kinase family Compartment: cytoplasm Pathology: - defects in PGK1 are generally associated with chronic hemolytic anemia although it can be accompanied by either mental retardation or muscular disease (rhabdomyolysis)
