Indications: - evaluation of alcohol consmption (within 1-4 weeks) Reference interval: - phosphatidylethanol in blood cutoffs: [2] - light drinking: < 25 ng/mL - moderate drinking: 25-200 ng/mL - heavy drinking: > 200 ng/mL - 18.5-20 ng/mL can be used in clinical care as a cutoff to detect heavy alcohol consumption in middle-age & older men* [1] * sensitivity: 84%, specificity: 73%
