Etiology: - severe hypophosphatemia (< 1 mg/dL) Clinical manifestations: 1) hematologic abnormalities a) hemolytic anemia b) impaired leukocyte function c) thrombocytopenia 2) central nervous system dysfunction a) numbness b) paresthesias c) weakness d) confusion e) obtundation f) convulsions g) coma Management: 1) oral phosphate (Neutra-Phos) 2) intravenous phosphate (in an ICU setting) 3) see hypophosphatemia
