phalanx (phalanges)

One of the long bones of the digits. - there are 14 phalanges in each hand & each foot - 2 in each thumb or great toe & 3 in each of the remaining fingers & toes - the phalanges are designated as proximal, middle & distal in relationship to the metacarpal bones or metatarsal bones
