persistent sinus venosus
Pathology:
1) persistence of sinus venosus associated with atrial septal defect
2) occurs in superior portion of atrial septum
3) often associated with anomalous pulmonary veins
a) generally upper right pulmonary vein
b) drainage into the right atrium
Special laboratory:
- echocardiography
a) right ventricular volume overload
b) no ostium secundum defect
- electrocardiogram: abnormal p axis
Complications:
- right ventricular hypertrophy
- right atrial enlargement
- atrial fibrillation
- pulmonary hypertension
