peripheral artery stent

Indications: - stenosis or occlusion of the superficial femoral artery in patients with peripheral artery disease Contraindications: - stenoses that cannot be dilated - bleeding disorders - pregnancy, breast-feeding, or planning to become pregnant within 5 years Complications: - restenosis necessitating additional therapy - paclitaxel-coated devices (balloons & stents) associated with increased mortality (RR=1.9 at 4-5 years) [2] Mechanism of action: - paclitaxel-coated stent - dual antiplatelet therapy for life [3]
