perioperative glucocorticoids

Management: - continue glucocorticoids: - increase if stress dose indicated - equivalent of >= 10-20 mg prednisone per day for at least 3 weeks in the past 6-12 months [1] - perioperative adrenal insufficiency - if high risk (major) surgery - hydrocortisone 50-100 mg IV before surgery, then 25-50 mg IV every 8 hours for 24-48 hours - if low risk surgery: - usual dose of glucocorticoid on day of surgery
