penile fracture

Etiology: - trauma to an erect penis Pathology: - tear in the tunica albuginea - hemorrhage of blood outside the corpora, resulting in hematoma Clinical manifestations: - pain, immediate loss of errection - eggplant deformity (swelling, discoloration, & deviation away from the defect in the tunica albuginea) - blood may extravasate through the urethra Complications: - erectile dysfunction due to disfiguring plaque formation - penile curvature - nerve injury Management: - surgical repair
