Separation of a patient & their secretions from contact with others.
Indications:
1) communicable disease via airborne spread
a) tuberculosis
b) SARS
c) measles (Rubeola)
d) varicella (also contact precautions)
2) C-difficile colitis (contact isolation precautions)
Complications:
- isolation for patients with respiratory illnesses & resistant Staphylococcal infections is associated with longer hospital stays & higher hospital costs [5]
