parietal cell antibody (PCellAb) in serum

Indications: 1) common in: a) 95% of patients with pernicious anemia - 60% of patients with pernicious anemia also have intrinsic factor-blocking antibodies b) up to 50% of patients atrophic gastritis without pernicious anemia c) 25-30% of patients with autoimmune thyroiditis 2) lower frequency associated with: - Addison's disease - myasthenia gravis - juvenile diabetes mellitus - gastric ulcer - iron-deficiency anemia - Sjogren's syndrome Principle: - antibodies directed against microsomal components of gastric parietal cells. - assay detects microsomal & cell-surface parietal cell autoantibodies Specimen: 1) serum 2) stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C Method: indirect immunofluorescence Interferences: - no chemical interferences or in vivo effects known.
