pulmonic valve heart sound (P2)

Pulmonic component of 2nd heart sound (S2), or P2, reflecting closure of the pulmonic valve which normally follows A2 (closure of aortic valve). Loud P2: pulmonary arterial hypertension, pulmonary embolism Soft P2: pulmonic stenosis, heavily calcified valve Special laboratory: - pulmonary function testing - low DLCO consistent with pulmonary hypertension [3] Radiology: - echocardiography for pulmonary artery hypertension* - ventilation perfusion scan for pulmonary embolism after confirmation of pulmonary artery hypertension [3] * right heart catheterization for confirmation
