Etiology: - inherited disorders of osteolysis may be referred to as vanishing bone syndrome - post-traumatic osteolysis - osteolysis in joint replacement - distal clavicular osteolysis in weightlifters - osteolysis of bone metastases - Pagets disease - renal osteodystrophy - untreated or undertreated osteomyelitis - workers exposed to polyvinylchloride or vapors Pathology: - softening, absorption & destruction of bone by osteoclasts Complications: - pathologic fractures
