ocular enucleation
Indications:
- endophthalmitis refractory to antibiotics
- cosmetic improvement in a blind eye
- blind, painful eyes
- malignant intraocular tumors
- ocular trauma to avoid sympathetic ophthalmia in other eye
- phthisis with degeneration
- congenital anophthalmia or severe microphthalmia to enhance development of the bony orbit
Procedure:
- removal of the eye from the orbit while preserving all other orbital structures
