norfloxacin (Noroxin, Chibroxin)

Tradename: Noroxin. Indications: - bacterial infections due to susceptible organisms - cystitis - gastroenteritis - traveler's diarrhea - eye infection - corneal ulcer [5] Dosage: 400 PO BID. Tabs: 400 mg. Ophthalmic agent: Tradename: Chibroxin. 1 drop every 1-6 hours (0.3%) Pharmacokinetics: - achieves poor serum concentrations Antimicrobial activity: Gram positive - Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) (+/-) Gram negative - Neisseria gonorrhoeae - Moraxella catarrhalis - Haemophilus influenzae - Escherichia coli - Klebsiella species - Enterobacter species - Serratia marcescens - Proteus vulgaris - Pseudomonas aeruginosa - Haemophilus ducreyi Drug interactions: -> norfloxacin inhibits cyt P450 1A2 -> may increase levels of drugs metabolized by cyt P450 1A2
