Atypical ras-like protein Function: 1) regulates NF-kappa-B activity 2) inhibits degradation of NFKBIB 3) inhibits phosphorylation of NFKBIB (putative) 4) inhibits nuclear localization of RELA NF-kappa-B subunit 5) both GTP- & GDP-bound forms block phosphorylation of NFKBIB 6) interacts with PEST domain in both NFKBIA & NFKBIB in vitro 7) probably only interacts with NFKBIB in vivo [2] Structure: - unlike other ras family proteins, conserved Gly & Gln in positions 13 & 65 are replaced by Leu in KBRAS1 & KBRAS2 - KBRAS1 & KBRAS2 resemble constitutively active, oncogenic forms of Ras - belongs to the small GTPase superfamily, Ras family, KappaB-Ras subfamily Compartment: - cytoplasm Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - widely expressed
