Indications: - surgical repair of hiatal hernia - correction of lower esophageal sphincter incompetence in patients with GERD - esophageal shortening due to GERD (Collis gastroplasty) [3] - esophageal stricture - esophageal ulceration Complications: 1) dysphagia (19%) 2) flatulence (5-8%) 3) bloating (5-8%) 4) esophageal dilation (6%) 5) redo-fundoplication (2%) - 18% experience reflux recurrence [3] 6) mortality 0.8% (30 days) 7) sustained use of gastrointestinal agents a) proton-pump inhibitors (34%) b) H2-receptor antagonists (24%) c) promotility agents (9%) 8) 30-day postoperative complications (8%) [3] Notes: - Collis gastropathy when performed is generally performed in association with fundoplication
