Tradename: Niclocide.
Indications:
- treatment of intestinal tapeworms
a) beef tapeworm
b) fish tapeworm
c) dwarf tapeworm
Dosage:
1) beef tapeworm & fish tapeworm
a) adults: 2 g (4 tablets) as single dose
b) children:
- 11-34 kg: 1 g as single dose
- > 34 kg: 1.5 g as single dose
2) dwarf tapeworm
a) adults: 2 g in a single daily dose for 7 days
b) children:
- 11-34 kg: 1 g chewed thoroughly in a single dose on day 1, then 500 mg QD for 6 days
- > 34 kg: 1.5 g as single dose on day 1, then 1 g QD for 6 days
Tablets: (chewable) 500 mg.
Adverse effects:
1) not common (1-10%)
- drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea
2) uncommon (< 1%)
- palpitations, edema in the arm, rash, pruritus ani, alopecia, oral irritation, fever, taste disturbance*, constipation, rectal bleeding, weakness, backache, diaphoresis
* bad taste in mouth
