Function: - inhibits NF-kappa-B by complexing with & trapping it in the cytoplasm - inhibits DNA-binding of NF-kappa-B p50/NF-kappa-B p65 & p50-c-Rel complexes - interacts with RELA, REL, NFKB1 nuclear factor NF-kappa-B p50 subunit & NFKB2 nuclear factor NF-kappa-B p52 subunit - Ser phosphorylated; followed by proteasome-dependent degradation Structure: - belongs to the NF-kappa-B inhibitor family - contains 6 ANK repeats Compartment: cytoplasm (putative) Expression: - highly expressed in spleen, testis & lung, followed by kidney, pancreas, heart, placenta & brain - also expressed in granulocytes & macrophages
