neural crest

Neuroectoderm in the embryo that arises from the dorsal surface of the neural folds or neural tube. This tissue leaves the neural folds or neural tube & differentiates into tissue that gives rise to: 1) dorsal root ganglia 2) autonomic ganglia 3) chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla 4) Schwann cells 5) sensory ganglia of cranial nerves CN-5, CN-9 & CN-10 6) part of the meninges 7) melanocytes
